Book Review: Fear the Reaper by David Housewright

I finished this book months ago, and apparently my brain also malfunctioned and I forgot to get this post written up and posted.

What I do remember is enjoying it. This book was very good and it has me wanting to go back and start this series from book one. This is book 23 of the Mac Mckenzie Novels. Mac and Bobby stop an armed man at a winery, but since nobody can prove who he planned to shoot, or whether he actually planned to shoot anyone, Mac starts digging into who the possible target could have been.

There were plenty of suspects, messy relationships, and things I just HAD to know what happened next, to keep me interested. It felt more like a cozy-ish mystery than a super intense thriller, which I actually liked and really enjoyed. I’d like to read more books with this vibe.

This is somehow the 23rd book in a series, which would normally make me immediately panic and thing I had to read the first 22 before reading this one, but I never felt completely lost while I read it which was a nice change. Do I remember every detail months later? Clearly not. But it was a quick, entertaining mystery, and I enjoyed it while I was reading it and I will be revisiting the series in the coming months.
