You know when you get in the mood for a certain book, or type of book, where it’s pretty predictable and you know what you’re getting into? The Ex-mas Breakup fits that bill. It has that warm, cozy, rom-com energy that I need some times to break up the thrillers, mystery, horror, psychological thrillers that I usually read.
From the very beginning, it pulls you in with small town holiday vibes, past relationship drama, and all the ingredients for the perfect rom-com are there and instead of trying to surprise you with something unexpected, it leans into it and commits fully.
There’s something so satisfying about a story where you can kind of see where it’s going, but you still want to follow along anyway. Like yes, I know what’s about to happen… but I’m smiling the whole time watching it unfold. It’s comforting in that way. The chemistry is definitely there, too. That second-chance tension?? perfect. Just enough awkwardness, just enough unresolved feeling. The setting is peak cozy, small town gossip, holiday chaos, it just makes everything feel familiar and personal.
This is also one of those books that’s ridiculously easy to binge. I picked it up thinking I’d read a few chapters and ended up flying through it because it was just that easy to devour and enjoy. It was exactly what I needed to get in that holiday mood. Sometimes you just want messy feelings, cozy vibes, a little holiday magic, and characters who clearly still have unfinished business. The Ex-mas Breakup delivered that perfectly.
